A memorial is an object which
serves as a focus for memory of a person (who has died). A memorial provides a
focus for personal memories – a place to visit, lay flowers and reflect on
happy times. The most common type of memorial is the gravestone or the memorial
plaque. Memorials take many different forms and some of the options to consider
include: color, shape, style and color of lettering, wording, and type of
material, for example granite or marble, application of a design or photo
plaque. The size of the memorial, as well as its design, will determine the
number of inscriptions that can be engraved. Memorials are available in brass,
marble, slate, sandstone and wood. The
memorials can be personalized with a fade safe photograph option which can be
downloaded from customers' images. Memorials can
be made in different colors. Colors like black granite, star galaxy granite are
the most commonly used. Other color options are blue granite, red granite,
tropical green granite etc. There are regulations governing the type of
memorials that can be erected in a churchyard or cemetery ground. For example,
in some areas cannot have kerbing around the grave space, and in churchyards,
granite, marble, ‘open books’, crosses and gilded letters are not usually
permitted. Memorial masonry prices are based on size, materials, design and
lettering. Online Memorials and tributes are becoming increasingly popular
especially with the increase in natural burial where the laying of gravestones,
or placing memorial plaques, is often not permitted.
